Bold is Beautiful

Boldness is a cornerstone of my work — but it took time to fully embrace. Early in my career, I often got lost in the details, missing the bigger picture. As I grew as a designer, something shifted: I realized that taking away, rather than adding, could strengthen the entire composition. Simplicity wasn’t a loss — it was a way to sharpen the impact.

Cliche

"Keep It Simple, Stupid" is a phrase that always grounds me when I feel myself going too deep down the rabbit hole. Client work is often a balancing act — a constant negotiation between creative vision and practical needs. Finding a result that both the client and the designer can be proud of is one of the greatest challenges — and one of the most important skills — in our work.

Why Bold Works

In great design, simplicity gives focus, and boldness gives strength. Together, they create work that’s both unmistakable and unforgettable.

Striving for originality means going beyond what's expected.It’s about uncovering fresh ideas, unique angles, and personal expression  the things that make your work truly yours.

Clarity is at the heart of good design. It’s the ability to define and communicate your message without distraction or confusion. When design is clear, the viewer knows exactly what they’re looking at, what it represents, and how they should feel or respond. Clarity doesn’t mean oversimplifying — it means stripping away the unnecessary so the core idea shines through.

Whether it’s a logo, layout, or illustration, clarity ensures that intention leads the way. It’s not just about looking good — it’s about being understood.

CLARITY IS AT THE HEART OF GOOD DESIGN.

Form & Function

Keep Things Loose

Sometimes, the spirit of an idea gets lost through over-refinement — when, in truth, the loose, freehand approach was the essence all along. Honoring the raw, imperfect energy of a concept can often capture more honesty, emotion, and connection than polishing it into something overly controlled.

Loosen Your Grip

Sketching with an open mind — free from constraints — can unlock greater vision. Letting ideas flow without overthinking allows unexpected shapes, concepts, and connections to emerge, often leading to stronger, more original design outcomes.

Trust Yourself

Build from these ideas and trust your instincts. Creativity isn't just about process — it's about intuition. The more you trust your hand, your eye, and your gut, the stronger and more authentic your designs will become. Structure gives you a starting point; instinct gives you the spark that brings it all to life.

Fun is Awesome

Logos should feel alive. Injecting fun and energy into a design makes a brand more approachable, memorable, and human. A logo with spirit invites connection — it doesn’t just represent a brand, it gives it a pulse.

Energy is Fun

Just ask your kid, or someone elses kid. A logo with bold colors, dynamic shapes, or playful typography instantly creates excitement or curiosity.

Make a Connection

A lively, energetic logo makes a brand feel more approachable and relatable — like a brand you’d want to interact with, not just observe.

Building in Time

Time is Not Your Friend

On an endless timeline, making a connection is almost inevitable. But in reality, time is not your friend — projects have deadlines. Within those constraints, you have to compromise, prioritize, and still achieve your goal.

For example:You might have a vision for a fully illustrated logo system, layered with intricate symbolism. But with only a week to deliver, you adapt — stripping the design to its boldest, most essential form. You focus on the core message, ensuring it’s clear, powerful, and on time.

This ability — balancing vision with reality — is what separates dreamers from effective designers. Great work isn’t just about inspiration; it’s about execution within real-world limits.

Shapes Make Things

Using basic shapes is often the foundation of strong design. Even if it’s not where you start, it can become where you land. No matter the creative path, the building blocks you use — the simplicity, structure, and clarity — are essential to success. Great design is built on strong foundations. Simple is good.

Hidden in Plain Site

Some logos reveal hidden symbols — sometimes obvious, sometimes subtly tucked within the design. These hidden elements add depth, reward closer attention, and create stronger connections with the audience by layering meaning beneath the surface.

A point in the Right Direction

Here, we see a pin used as a nose — a small but intentional detail that could symbolize destination or location. Meaning plays a big role in how we want the audience to interpret the design. Take the FedEx logo, for example: a hidden arrow between the "E" and the "x" subtly conveys speed and precision. It's a quiet detail, but it carries powerful brand meaning. Symbols like these, whether bold or hidden, help shape how a brand is understood and remembered.

Color plays a crucial role in design because it shapes how people feel, think, and respond. The right color can create mood, spark emotion, and project confidence without a single word. Warm tones can energize and excite, while cool tones calm and reassure. Bold colors grab attention and communicate strength; muted palettes suggest subtlety, sophistication, or trust.

Color isn't just decoration — it's a language. Used thoughtfully, it enhances clarity, deepens emotional connection, and gives a brand or design its unique voice and presence.

Change the color to match your brand or vision, add your logo, choose the perfect layout, modify menu settings, add animations, add shape dividers, increase engagement with call to action and more.

Speak Clearly

Finding Your Voice

Every visual element should serve the message — not distract from it. Good design communicates with intention, using form, color, and space to guide the viewer without confusion. Clarity doesn’t mean plain — it means purposeful. When your design speaks clearly, your audience listens.

Shape, Style, Story: Visual Identity Through Design and Drawing

Logo design is the art of distilling identity into a single, memorable mark.Strong logos are built on thoughtful composition, where every element serves a purpose and nothing is accidental. Color brings emotion and clarity, shaping how a brand feels at first glance. Emotion itself is the hidden engine — a logo that resonates emotionally creates lasting connection. Boldness adds confidence and impact, making a mark stand out and stick. And finally, style defines the tone — whether clean and minimal or expressive and raw, it should reflect the soul of the brand.

These are some of the core elements I focus on when undertaking a logo project. Each plays a vital role in building work that is not only visually striking, but strategically sound and built to last.

Whether you’re launching a new brand or looking to bring a bold idea to life through illustration, I can help you build a visual foundation that lasts. I apply the same core principles — clear composition, purposeful color, emotional connection, bold presence, and distinct style — to both logo design and illustration. For startups and small businesses, that means creating visuals that are not only eye-catching, but strategic, flexible, and built to grow with you. My process is collaborative, focused, and designed to give you work that feels like a true reflection of your brand from day one.
